Silverbacks Squad for 2025 FIBA Afrobasket Named

Uganda’s men’s national basketball team, the Silverbacks, has unveiled its 12-man roster for the FIBA Afrobasket 2025 tournament set to take place in Angola from August 12 to 24.
The squad features a blend of fresh talent and experienced players, with Rugette Tejan Joel, a graduate from the Junior Silverbacks, making his senior team debut.
Lubowa Naseef and Christopher Mubiru have also earned their first national team call-ups as Uganda targets an impressive run at the continental championship. A late adjustment saw Emmanuel Mugenga replace Jacksen Moni, who failed to secure FIBA clearance in time. Meanwhile, the Nam Blazers trio of Jimmy Enabu, James Okello, and Tonny Drilleba will not feature, with Drilleba reportedly turning down the invitation. The technical team, led by head coach George Galanopoulos, will be assisted by Mandy Juruni Lutwama, Mike Schmitz, and Andrew Tendo. The squad will depart on Thursday for a training camp in South Africa, where they will fine-tune preparations until August 11 before heading to Angola.
